Living Circle Living Circle Camp If you have been to Mayflower Camps you may have a good sense of the way our camps run BUT you also need to know that the Living Circle is a step further in the direction of a shared intention. Please read more about what this camp invites and see if this resonates with you. The focus and intent of the camp is to enjoy and share in a living relationship. This has two parts:
These are inseparable aspects of a unity but the latter will always be an expression of the former. I am not expecting or requiring belief or otherwise in any particular idea or teaching but a closed mind cannot discover anything but itself. Spirituality as lived is an expression of grounded intelligence, care and involvement in a willingness to grow in responsibility for the conditions that promote well be-ing, wholeness and a dynamic peace. We camp in a single circle and share a hearth fire for communal cooking, and as the home place where we may relax in whatever way our energies move us. We ask campers NOT to bring and use alcahol or 'social' drugs at Living Circle. If you want to come, choose a weekend place or a fulltime place. It is important to begin together on Saturday's first meeting. It is also important to commit to one of these two options and not to stay beyond Sunday unless comitting to the full camp. Each morning we all meet in a simple way that combines a brief but held connected silence, the opportunity to check in with each other and as a camp and any camp business that may arise. Every day is unique and the meetings reflect and express where we are. They can be beautifully wordless or engaging or flat or awkward. But the willingness to meet is part of the camp. We also meet in silence, music, song and dance This is our live music and comes out of our camp. I have a wide repetoire that I can hold and others may extend that or join with me in song and musical instuments. Hopefully the blurb this far will convey the sense that we are an ongoing exploration and discovery of our potential. The name 'Living Circle' is in part to put the emphasis on the life and connection or communion rather than the contents or the forms. We tend to live in a world that promotes separate ego selfs that 'get' what they want and consume it in private. I am inviting that we give priority to using music and dance as a structure through which we open and allow a felt relationship to express - (See 1 and 2 above). Though there ARE specific forms involved; such as notes or rhythms to play, words to sing and steps to learn, we grow the technical abilities within the energetic of a present movement of being. Learning in Joy and experience. However we are not careless regarding the form or averse to using what works in a given situation. Because we tend to be already habituated to a world that puts emphasis on 'getting it right' at the level of form, (or at least not getting it wrong), we have to grow trust by NOT engaging in competitive identification (oneupmanships or jealousies) and uphold a shared worth such that we each can be a sense of safety rather than trigger defences. There are wondrous simple joys in being alive, and yet we have such histories that recurringly block, spoil or undermine that joy's expression, within our selves and among each other. To approach the present moment with new eyes is the willingness to let the past go and invite the future to arise anew. There are no formulae for life but there are guidelines. The camp, music and dance will be held by Brian Steere with Cathi Nile. We run as a private event that is booked in advance and welcome anyone who is willing to join with us.
